Ron Bassett transforms pine bark waste into a valuable horticultural product, laying the foundation for a new industry in Queensland.

🏗 1980s: Growth and Innovation
Ron Bassett Pine Bark Supplies is launched, introducing composting, screening, and processing advancements. A new Mt Beerwah Road site enables large-scale production.

💼 1990s: Bassett Barks is Born
In partnership with Hyne Timber, Bassett Barks Pty Ltd is established. Under Sue Joseph’s leadership, the business modernises, expands into exports, and earns industry accreditation.

🏭 2000s: Built to Grow
A move to a 100-acre purpose-built site boosts production capacity and strengthens our position as a trusted supplier to leading nurseries and landscapers.

🔬 2010s: Setting the Standard
NIASA accreditation and a commitment to quality testing make Bassett Barks a benchmark for consistent, high-performance growing media and bark products.

🌿 2020: Leading with Sustainability
We reinforce our commitment to sustainability, using 100% PEFC-certified Australian plantation timber and recycled materials to close the loop and protect natural resources.

🌳 2024: Growing Better Together
Bassett Barks proudly joins Rocky Point and the Hyne Timber Group, bringing together a shared ‘whole-of-log’ philosophy — using every part of the tree in products designed for the horticulture and landscaping markets.
A sustainable future with Rocky Point and Hyne Timber
United by shared values of sustainability, innovation and quality, Bassett Barks and Rocky Point are now proud members of the wider Hyne Timber Group. This partnership combines generations of timber, horticultural and landscape expertise, anchored in respect for the land and a commitment to sustainable practices.
From forest to finished product
We proudly support a whole of log philosophy. Hyne Timber uses around 50% of each sustainably grown plantation pine log to manufacture world class timber products. The remainder of the log, which would otherwise go to waste, is transformed by Rocky Point and Bassett Barks into high quality mulches, potting mixes, and growing media. Closing the loop and creating a truly circular resource model.
Closing the loop
Every tree harvested is replanted, with each one taking more than 25 years to mature. As the tree grows, it absorbs carbon from the atmosphere, helping to clean the air and support a healthier environment.
Supporting local & regional communities
We work with local suppliers and regional businesses, supporting Australian green industries and ensuring our products meet the highest quality standards.
Industry-accredited growing media and landscape supplier
Bassett Barks is proud to showcase more than 30 years of membership with Greenlife Industry Queensland and our NIASA accreditation as a certified Growing Media Supplier, demonstrating our long-term commitment to quality, sustainability and industry best practice. We are also a member of Landscape Queensland, supporting professional standards across the landscaping sector.

Confidence in every product
At our 100 acre purpose built site, all Bassett Barks products are manufactured from 100% PEFC certified Australian plantation timber and recycled materials, using Australia’s most advanced processing technologies.
